Everything You Should Know About World Population Day 2022
World Population Day 2022 |
A nation's development and administration are significantly influenced by its population. It is more challenging to develop at a regular speed in countries that are more populated. Because of this, reducing overpopulation is essential to guaranteeing the long-term extension of our current resources, whether on a national or global scale. The population of the planet increased sevenfold in just about 200 years after it had taken hundreds of thousands of years to reach one billion people.
The population of the globe passed the 7
billion barrier in 2011, is currently 7.7 billion, and is expected to reach
8.5 billion in 2030, 9.7 billion in 2050, and 10.7 billion in 2080. In order to
highlight the importance of the population element in all spheres, it is
therefore commemorated annually.
COMMEMORATION OF WORLD POPULATION DAY:
Every year on July 11, people all around the
world commemorate World Population Day to draw attention to the issue of global
population growth, increase awareness about it, and inform people about its
significance.

HISTORY OF WORLD POPULATION DAY
The Governing Council of the United Nations
Development Programme founded World Population Day, which is observed on July
11. (UNDP). It was sparked by the excitement of Five Billion Day, which took place
on July 11, 1987, roughly the day the world's population surpassed five
billion.
In order to increase awareness of population
growth, particularly the connections between people and the environment and the
development of the environment, the United Nations General Assembly recognized
World Population Day with Resolution 45/216 in December 1990.
More than 90 nations observed the first World
Population Day on July 11, 1990. Since then, World Population Day has been
observed by a number of UNFPA country offices and other groups and
institutions working with authorities and the public.

WORLD POPULATION TRENDS
The population of the globe increased to 1
billion people after hundreds of thousands of years, and then it increased
sevenfold in just another 200 years or so. The world's population crossed the 7
billion threshold in 2011, is projected to reach about 7.9 billion in 2021,
and to rise to almost 8.5 billion in 2030, 9.7 billion in 2050, and 10.9
billion in 2100.
These significant changes in fertility rates,
rising urbanization, and quickening migration have all contributed to this
remarkable development, which has been primarily driven by an increase in the
number of people who have reached reproductive age. Future generations will be
affected significantly by these developments.
Fertility rates and life expectancy have
significantly changed in recent decades. Women had 4.5 children on average in
the early 1970s; by 2015, the global fertility rate has decreased to under 2.5
children per woman. In the meantime, average lifespans over the world have
increased, going from 64.6 years in the early 1990s to 72.6 years in 2019.
Additionally, urbanization and migration are
also accelerating globally. In 2007, the urban population surpassed the rural
population for the first time. By 2050, 66% of the world's population will
reside in cities.

SIGNIFICANCE OF POPULATION DAY COMMEMORATION:
World Population Day is observed annually
with the aim of raising awareness of the problems caused by population growth
and the potential effects it may have on the environment and the advancement of
civilization.
On this day, topics such as family planning,
poverty, sexual equality, maternal health, civil rights, and health problems
that pregnant women must cope with are also discussed.
Pakistan has the fifth-largest population in the world, and managing such a sizable population proved challenging during the COVID-19 pandemic's second wave, raising the nation's mortality rate.
Because of this, population management needs
to be given top priority on a national and international level.
