SUCCESS STORY OF MUHAMMAD USMAN

My Name is Muhammad Usman, a student in the 9th class at GHS Shamkote, UC # 117.  My father Shabeer Ahmad is a farmer on a small scale. We are 7 family members. To earn our living we have kept some animals at our home. All of us have to work to fulfill our daily needs.

I am eager to get an education and my future planning is to be a teacher but due to poverty my father always wants that I should leave the school and should work with him in the fields. Along with my studies, I support my father in his work. Mostly I have to cut green fodder for animals. Unfortunately, my right hand was cut off in the Toka machine on 5th May 2021. While preparing food for animals.

It was the worst day and an unbearable loss for my life because I am a right-handed boy. After healing my wounds, I was unable to write with my right hand. I have lost my hope. My father was planning that now I should graze animals because I would not be able to sit in exams somehow I agreed with my father's decision. I left the school and threw my books in one corner of my room.

A NEW CHALLENGE KEEPS THE BRAIN KICKING AND THE HEART TICKING

After a long absence from school, my teacher Muhammad Waseem Ashraf, called my father to send me to school. My father told him all incidents of cutting my hand and refused him to send me to school, Meanwhile, my teacher conducted with Child Protection Unit Khanewal to support him to bring back me to school.

The child protection officer Khanewal and his team visited my house along with my teacher. All of them convinced me and my father that it is not the end of hope, I can appear in the examination with the support of a writer. Child Protection Unit(CPU) and the school will provide him all types of support for issuing the Disability Certificate and for provision of the writer in the Exams.

All the process is still going on as per discussed plan with my father by the CPU team. My school issued all types of required certificates, PLYC CPU team guided me at every stem. All processes have been completed,  A medical board was set up at DHQ Khanewal for my proper medical check to issue me a disability certificate. I appeared in front of the medical board, and the board has declared me a disabled person, now my file has been submitted to the Social Welfare department for further process. All proceeding is in progress CPU team is taking regular follow up I hope I will get my disability certificate and then I will be able to get a writer for my 9th class board Multan.

I am really thankful to Save the children, PLYC, and the CPU team for our counseling and for providing me proper guidance.

The message of Muhammad Usman

My advice to other disabled people would be, to concentrate on things your disability doesn't prevent you from doing well, and don't regret the things it interferes with”
