WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION REJECTS CHINA's ZERO COVID STRATEGY
![]() |
Zero COVID Strategy Lawrence Gaston who is a
professor at Georgetown University and founding O’Neill chair in global health
law as well as the director of the world health organization's collaborating
center on national and global health law denies China s strategy and declares
it Non-Sustainable. He added that it's not sustainable, I don't think anyone in
my field would think it's sustainable. You have to remember that this Virus in
terms of Omicron and its sub-variants is so incredibly contagious that
eventually most if not everybody will get it including in China. It’s almost as
contagious as “MEASLES”. If you put 10 people in a room with Measles for an
hour, Eight of them will be infected with measles and so it’s not sustainable
at all. China isn’t a big problem because they don’t have a good vaccine, the
elderly haven’t been vaccinated and they have an inferior vaccine as compared
to the m-RNA vaccines we have available in the West. So that’s the perfect
storm for a really big outbreak in China and a big economic and social and
health problem. The world health organization has
called on Pfizer to make its Covid anti-viral pill more widely available in
poorer countries as vaccination rates in less developing countries are also
lagging as compared to wealthier countries. WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE TO BRIDGE ALL THESE DISPARITIES Professor Lawrence Gaston Said
That “We’re seeing an exact repeat of the unconscionable gaps between the rich
and poor as we've been through this with AIDS and now we’ve been through it now
with COVID vaccines and now we've got to do something for both vaccinations and
therapeutics. It has been more than two years and the vaccination rates are
quite low in many parts of the World particularly Sub Saharan Africa Pfizer and
other companies have to waive their intellectual property rights and they have
to transfer their technologies to lower-income countries so they can make
generic versions cheap and accessible to the whole world. We're in a pandemic
remember we need to make that happen to save our global community. For more detailed information related to different Public Health issues, Please do CLICK HERE |
